AFOLU Project Manager (m/f/d) as Freelancer

Your responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior AFOLU Carbon Project Developer to join our dynamic team and lead the development of high-quality carbon projects in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. This role is crucial for driving our organization's mission to combat climate change through innovative nature-based solutions while generating verified carbon credits in compliance with leading international standards.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete carbon project lifecycle, from initial feasibility assessments through to credit issuance, working with cutting-edge methodologies under VERRA VCS, Gold Standard, and CAR standards. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on global climate action while working with diverse stakeholders across multiple geographic regions.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Lead the design and development of AFOLU carbon projects including afforestation, reforestation and improved forest management
• Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies and baseline assessments to evaluate project viability and potential carbon benefits
• Develop Project Design Document s (PDDs) in accordance with VERRA VCS, Gold Standard, and CAR standards and methodologies
• Manage project validation and verification processes , including coordination with third-party auditors and Validation & Verification Bodies (VVBs)
• Oversee project registration and  carbon credit issuance processes through relevant standards and registries

Your profile

• More than 5 years of hands-on  experience in AFOLU carbon project development an a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Climate Science, Agriculture or a related field
• Proven track record  of successfully developing and implementing carbon projects from inception to credit issuance
• Deep understanding of carbon market mechanisms , particularly in the AFOLU sector
• Strong project management capabilitie s with ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and working with diverse stakeholder groups including communities, governments, and international organizations
• Ability to  travel internationally for project site visits and stakeholder meetings
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English , additional knowledge of Spanish would be an advantage
